In 1929, Albert Michalik established his funeral home at the corner of Chicago, Ogden, and Milwaukee Avenues in the bustling Polish district. Over time, his loyal following of families began moving into different areas of the city. He eventually opened another funeral home on the northwest side of Chicago to serve the following generations. Albert’s brother, Chester was involved with the funeral homes as well as operating his own funeral livery service.
After establishing the Michalik tradition of serving families over the entire city and suburbs, the original location on Chicago Avenue became, and still serves as, the anchor location.
In 1980, Chester’s daughter, Delphine Michalik, joined her family's profession after graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science. In 1983, Albert died but passed on a legacy of providing the finest of services. After Albert's death, Chester and Delphine continued operating the funeral home together until Chester's death in 1993. In 2014, Delphine’s son, Joshua Romaniuk, joined the family's profession after also graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Joshua now represents the third generation of the family profession.
Michalik Funeral Home is proud to operate the closest location to downtown Chicago with a chapel and supervised parking despite the closing of many funeral homes in the area. Today, Delphine and Joshua, along with Katie LeMay, carry on the tradition of serving families for many generations; but also the countless new residents to the Gold Coast, Old Town, Streeterville, Goose Island, River North, River West, West Loop, and West Town neighborhoods. They also serve many families in the outlying areas of Chicago and Suburbs in cooperation with many funeral homes convenient to the family.
