Obituary

Beloved "Mum," Blanca Leonor Allocco, gracefully passed away on June 2, 2021.

Mum put all her trust in God and throughout her battle with cancer remained faithful and committed to living a life filled with peace, fortitude, and forgiveness. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."

Mum was fiercely devoted to her husband, and though she could have been a successful executive, instead chose a career as a homemaker. As the matriarch, Mum taught her children and grandchildren that hard work, education, faith, and family were more valuable than any possession. She especially cherished her role as grandmother, most evident when she turned a blind eye to extra deserts, jumping on beds, and other monkey business.

Mum preferred giving rather than receiving. She quietly made donations to many institutions throughout the world and never passed a homeless person without offering money for a sandwich.

Blanca is survived by her adoring husband Louis; their daughters Johanna and Jennifer; grandchildren Caitlin and Colton; her sister Rose (Roy); her brother Manuel (Irma); her brother Jaime; her brother-in-law Jorge Tulio; her in-laws: Dominic (Kathy), Vince (Theresa), Frank (Barb), Mary, Phylis, and Rose (Philip). She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews in both Colombia and the US.

A Funeral Mass will be held on what would have been Mum's 81st birthday on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610. A live stream of the Funeral Mass will be available at the following link: https://youtu.be/dJY9fRzi64Q . Parking will be available at 20 West Chicago Avenue (between State Street and Dearborn Street on the North side of Chicago Avenue, adjacent to Dunkin' Donuts). A reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, an organization close to Mum's heart, www.mercyhome.org , 1140 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois 60607.
