Brian Willard
Babcock, Sr.
February 21, 2025
Brian Willard Babcock Sr., 63, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born in Birmingham, Michigan, to Janet and Paul Babcock, Brian demonstrated a natural talent for sports from an early age. He spent much of his childhood at Oakland Hills Country Club, where he cultivated a passion for competition. A gifted golfer, swimmer, tennis player, and standout football player, he continued his athletic career by playing football at Western Michigan University. In his professional life, Brian built a successful career in computer sales, eventually becoming the Director and Vice President of Sales for prominent brands such as Toshiba, Gateway, and U.S. Robotics. Brian's competitive spirit, honed through sports, seamlessly translated into the business world, where he played a key role in making laptop computers more accessible at a time when they were on the verge of becoming a staple in everyday life. His confidence, charisma, and determination earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and friends.
Outside of his professional life, Brian approached life with unbridled passion and enthusiasm. His love for golf persisted throughout his adult years, taking him to renowned courses worldwide, from Pebble Beach to Augusta to St. Andrews, where he even had the privilege of playing a few holes alongside a young Tiger Woods as well as Gary Player. He also enjoyed jogging, spending quality time with his children and their spouses, and dining at his favorite restaurants in Chicago's Gold Coast with his wife, Melissa. Brian's sense of humor, resilience, and commanding presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Brian is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; their two sons, Brian Willard Jr. (Katura) and Preston Norris (Macy), who will carry on his strength, wisdom, and sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Janet and Paul Willard Babcock; his sister, Barbara Babcock Fox; his brother, Paul Cameron Babcock; and is survived by his sisters, Nancy Babcock Butler; Julie Babcock Chimento (Tony); Sarah Babcock Mutarelli (Dan); and brother, Christopher Babcock and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60654 for a 9:30 a.m. Visitation followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass.
