Obituary

Dana L Wood Chaney, 48, passed away early in the morning of July 15th, 2015, in the comfort of her home after battling with an aggressive form of cancer. Dana, an accomplished writer and storyteller, focused her life on the stories of those struggling against injustice and oppression in fictional and non-fictional settings. Her nonfiction work, Regarding the Suffragists, which examines the origins of the women's right movment and compares it with current women's rights organizations is under review for posthumous publication. Her short story, The Moving Tree, won Chicago Public Radio's Stories on Stage and was produced as a dramatic reading at the Museum of Contemprary Art in Chicago and broadcast on the air on WBBM. She had numerous other works and publications including a collection of fictional short stories based on the very real plights faced by the people in Africa reported in the news. She is survived by her parents Richard and Jeanie Wood; her sisters and their spouses Darci and Mike Underwood, Devon and Roger Bing; Deanne Wood and Dawn Malosh; and by her husband Todd. Her unshakable idealism, faith in others, and the dignity and grace with which she faced her own fate serves as a shining example to us all and a reminder of what we are all capable of. She will be missed but remembered.
