Daniel James Sullivan, Sr., age 97, passed away peacefully at his home on August 28, 2025, surrounded by his six children. He was born in Aliquippa, PA in 1928, the oldest son of Daniel and Hilda (Suttelle) Sullivan.
Husband of the late Catherine (Rooney). Father of Susan, Daniel, Jr. (Karen Dillman), Paul, Michael, Mary Beth (Robert Flannery, Jr.), and Catherine (Ryan Wallenfang).
Brother of the late Joanne McCarthy, John Sullivan and Gail Suttelle.
Grandfather of Maura Sullivan, Noah Sullivan, Catherine Flannery, Nora Flannery, Lillian Wallenfang and Patrick Wallenfang.
Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and preceded in death by cherished extended family members.
Daniel (Dan) moved to Chicago's South Shore neighborhood as a young boy and attended S.S. Peter and Paul High School. He received his degree in Economics from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War. After his service, he worked as a sales executive in the steel industry. He was a founding member of the Prairie Dog Golf Association. A life-long Chicago sports fan, he was a proud season ticket holder for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, Blackhawks and Notre Dame football teams.
As a devout Catholic and servant, Dan received the Christifideles Award from Cardinal Blasé J. Cupich in recognition of his generous service to the Life of the Church and his service to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in the Ravenswood neighborhood.
Family and friends will meet Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1107 North Orleans Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610 for a 10:00 a.m. Visitation followed by a 12:00 p.m. (noon) Funeral Mass, with Fr. Michael Shanahan and Fr. Larry Lisowski concelebrating. A livestream of the Funeral Mass will be available at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/icsjparish . Limited parking will be available in the Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph School parking lot, west of the church, located at 363 W. Hill Street, Chicago.
Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois, will be private for immediate family at a future date.
