Edward “Ed” Joseph Welter passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family the morning of April 23, 2026, at the age of 73. Ed (Eddy Joe) was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Gordon and Patricia (nee Turgeon) Welter. He graduated from Brother Rice High School and went on to be a self-made man as an entrepreneur, owning several different businesses where he was known for his strong work ethic. His true purpose in life was to be generous to family and friends and help in their time of need. Ed was a generous and dependable man that loved spending time in Michigan, with family and friends, being on the water, and finding time to relax.
He is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Nicole (Neil) Simon and grandchildren Josh, Hannah, and Jack; daughter Janine Welter and grandchildren Colin and Caden; daughter Brittany Welter; son Blake Welter; brother Dan (Martha) Welter, and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Patricia (Tom) Swabowski.
Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends will meet Monday, May 11, 2026, at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60654 for a 1:00 p.m. Visitation followed by a 2:00 p.m. Funeral Mass. A livestream of the Funeral Mass will be available.

A Celebration of Life luncheon in the south suburbs at 4:00 p.m. will immediately follow the services at the Cathedral.
