Eileen Kathleen Stratemeier Karamanski Massura, age 96, passed away in her sleep last week. She left this world from her room along the shores of Lake Michigan, a drive and view she dearly enjoyed. In her later years Eileen would often reminisce reflectively on the journey "a little girl from South Artesian" would take.

Nursing was the doorway that opened to Life's choices and adventures for Eileen. Circumstances and fate gave Eileen early leadership roles. She took them as presented, and professionally pushed forward and through.

Eileen took her career through a serious set of new and challenging positions. From Charge Nurse to Administrative positions. She accepted challenges that had not often been presented to other women. She broke glass ceilings all her life.

Teaching nursing became an inevitable result of her life's experiences. Eileen would use this vehicle to take students all over the globe.

Family therapy was the last of Eileen's professional pathways to take up nearly 10 years and also become a vehicle of multiple lifelong friendships.

Through 2 marriages Eileen had 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Concentric circles of friends were a big part of Eileen's daily life. Friends from childhood, from Nursing School, from Nursing work, from Nursing teaching and trips would intertwine with friendships from her church and her friends from her pool.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60654

A private family burial is planned.
