Fr. John Nowak, C.R. was born in Chicago on June 30, 1944 and died in Chicago on January 3, 2022. Fr. Nowak professed first vows in the Congregation of the Resurrection on September 8, 1963 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 29, 1971. He served as a teacher and coach at both Gordon Tech High School and Weber High School. He was pastor at St. Hedwig Parish in 1979 and at Our Lady of Loretto Parish from 1985 to 1987. Fr. John also served the Congregation as Novice Master and Vocation Director from 1994 to 1997. From 1997 to 2004 Fr. John served as Provincial Superior of the USA Province. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Wenceslaus Parish from 2006 to 2017. He also served as part-time chaplain at St. Joseph Village from 2006 until his death.

Fr. John is survived by his brother Robert (Sandy) Nowak, five nieces and nephews, and his brothers in Community.

Wake Monday, January 10, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 2226 North Hoyne Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60647. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the Wake at 11:00 a.m. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles, Illinois.
