Francis X. Marotta,1929-2013. Passed away on September 20, 2013 at the age of 84. He is the beloved husband of the late Barbara, loving father of Catherine (Fabrizio) Ferruzzi, Margaret (Michael) Newell, Elizabeth (Ronald) Gerberi, Stephen (Patrice) Marotta, and Mary Frances (Gino) Caselli. Dear "Grandpa" of 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Frank was born on September 18, 1929. He grew up in Rogers Park and attended St. Ignatius grammar school and St. Bede Academy and graduated from Loyola University as an ROTC Commissioned Officer. After marrying the love of his life, Barbara Szygowski, at a beautiful wedding in 1953 at the elegant Edgewater Beach Club, the couple left for Ft. Benning, GA, and then Baumholder, Germany where Francis served as an officer in the U.S. Army Overseas Command. In 1958 he returned to Chicago with his family and then served for over 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserve Command Office retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked for the State of Illinois as a Corrections Officer and resided in the Edgewater neighborhood. Francis was a kind, gracious man, with a great devotion to God and his family. He attended daily Mass with his late wife Barbara. Frank's love of reading made him a great conversationalist who always enjoyed the company of others. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Friday September 27, 2013 from 10 a.m-12 noon at St. John Cantius Church, 825 N. Carpenter, Chicago, IL, Mass at noon, followed by interment at Ft. Sheridan Cemetery in Ft.
