Obituary

Georgia M. Speck passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. She experienced a very rapid deterioration in general health and had been in hospice care for three days prior to death.

She was born in Pittsburgh in 1936 to Miriam (nee Moore) and Thomas Morgan. She grew up in Franklin, largely under the care of her grandparents, Georgia and Leon "Peezer" Moore. She graduated with honors from Franklin High School and attended Clarion College.

In 1956, she married Jay Rhoads and in 1958 they welcomed their only daughter, Jaye.

Georgia was employed in office managerial work in various businesses through her lifetime. Her most recent position was at IA Construction.

She married Andrew Speck in 1986, and he precedes her in death. They spent many winters in their second home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Georgia enjoyed card games—bridge, Euchre, and solitaire. She enjoyed golf, shopping, sunbathing, baking and reading for pleasure.

Since 2021, Georgia has resided with Jaye and her husband, John Schreier. While in Chicago, she enjoyed live music, some travel and sitting on the porch with a glass of wine chatting with passers-by and petting their dogs.

She is survived by Jaye and Jaye's children; Tim of Chicago, IL, Darcy (Bobby) Murphy of Shrewsbury, MA; and Darcy's daughter, Remy age 3.

She is also survived by her stepchildren: Jan (Tom) Yanacek of Meadville, PA, their daughter Janette (Ron) Bickel and grandson Charlie of Pittsburgh, PA; Alan (Laurie) Speck of Meadville, PA, their son Andy (Meg) of St. Petersburg, FL; and Teri Speck of Fort Lauderdale, FL and her son, Reece Franke.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you honor Georgia by singing at the top of your lungs, dancing like no one is watching and doing something special for someone else….only kindness matters.
