Joseph Gerard Meehan, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Belleair Florida on Friday, April 27, 2012. Born in Washington, DC on December 27, 1931 to Michael J. Meehan and Regina Adele Lanigan, Joe graduated from Washington's Gonzaga High School and Georgetown University. He served as a second lieutenant in the US Air Force and was stationed in West Germany from 1954-1955. During his 25 years with General Electric Co. he traveled the world auditing the company's overseas operations, then assumed positions of increasing responsibility in its finance department. He completed a distinguished career at Rubbermaid Corp, retiring in 1992 after ten years as SrVP and Chief Financial Officer. His retirement years were divided between Chicago and Belleair, FL. While an avid golfer, sports enthusiast and volunteer, Joe was a devoted husband and father who treasured his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Robb Meehan, whom he courted and married in 2006, children Joanne, Patricia, Michael (Colleen), David, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two stepsons and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Anne Mary McCue Meehan, in 2005. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St., Chicago, IL on Friday, May 4, 2012, with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
