She is mourned by her many friends, co-workers and immediate family including her devoted wife, Sheila Sullivan, her parents, Robert and Carol, and siblings Michael (nephew Ian), Kristin & Tom Flora (nephews Patrick, Michael and Daniel Hoffman) and Ellen & Joe Cianelli (nephew Bennett and niece Caris).

A graduate of Hinsdale Central High School, Karyn received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Champaign and a M. Ed. degree in psychology and counseling from DePaul University, Chicago, IL.

She enjoyed her short but eclectic and creative life spanning several diverse career paths: on-air radio personality at the Classic Rock station 94.7 in Chicago; talented metalsmith and custom jewelry designer (Karyn Haney Designs); and dedicated Chicago Public School counselor and case manager.

Those who knew her will miss her work ethic and organizational skills, her commitment to service and social inclusion, her generosity and compassion and her creativity in both her artistic and counseling work. But, most of all, they will miss her joie de vivre, her charismatic personality and her infectious laugh. We commend her spirit to her next path...that of everlasting life.

Visitation Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60610.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children First Fund to support services for underprivileged children attending the West Ridge Elementary School.
