Obituary

Margaret M. Ericson, nee Horrigan, who was born in Chicago in 1924, died on March 24, 2014. She had been a long time employee of IBM Corporation in Chicago where she broke a glass ceiling by being the first woman to become a manager in its Midwest region. She retired in 1987 with a commendation from John Akers. Prior to IBM she managed multiple-shift data entry operations for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. After WWII, she became an employee of the U. S. Department of the Treasury. During WWII, she assembled small-arms components for Quality Hardware (a defense contractor).

Margaret is greatly missed by her brother Timothy J. Horrigan (Judith), her nieces Hillary A. McNally (Thomas), and Adrienne J. Horrigan (Leslie Shoemaker) of Chicago, and Victoria L. Horrigan of Kendal, United Kingdom; her grandnephew, Randall J. McNally and her grandnieces Elizabeth A. McNally and McKenzie B. McNally, also of Chicago. There will be a private visitation for the family on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Michalik Funeral Home with Interment at Graceland Cemetery. The family is planning to hold a memorial for her on a date to be announced. Details will be posted at www.michalikfuneralhome.com.

Margaret requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate , or The Anti-Cruelty Society, www.anticruelty.org .
