Maria De
Los Angeles Hernandez
October 26, 2024
Maria de los Angeles Hernandez, born in Santa Clara, Cuba, was so appropriately named as she joined the angels in Heaven on October 26, 2024, with her husband Luis Enrique, of 65 years, at her side. She was 90 years old.
Maria was born to two, loving parents (Filomena and Jose Lopez) and was the oldest of many brothers and sisters whom she dearly loved. She set off alone, at a young age, to Havana seeking employment to assist her family. Eventually, she was able to bring her entire family to this city where they were able to have better opportunities than in the small town they left behind.
Maria met Luis, married, and had one son, Victor Enrique. He became and remained the pride and joy of her life. The three patiently waited eleven years for permission to enter the United States, settling in Chicago. Maria worked in a factory for many years that produced picture frames. Her son married Lenore and Maria would tell everyone that she didn't have a daughter-in-law; she had a daughter. The two shared a beautiful and special bond for over 40 years. Once the factory closed, Maria joyously assumed caring for her first, then second grandsons, Victor and Luis, while their parents worked. They were unceasingly loved, fed, and spoiled by their sweet grandma.
Maria will be remembered for her commitment to her faith, great generosity, exuberance for life, and cooking amazing Cuban cuisine. Most of all, she is remembered for her never-ending, enduring love for her family and friends both here and in her native Cuba.
Maria is survived by her beloved husband Luis, son Victor, daughter (in-law) Lenore, grandsons Victor (Jessica) and Luis (Natalina), loving great-grandchildren Avianna Maria, Luis John, Sofia Rose, Marie Joy, and Lola Raye and, siblings, nieces and nephews in Florida and Cuba.
Family and friends will meet Thursday, October 31, 2024, at St. Sylvester Church, 2157 North Humboldt Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois 60647 for a 9:00 a.m. Visitation followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Entombment Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.
