Michael R. Kane, beloved son of the late James R. Kane and the late Virginia Kane, dear step-son of Carol Kane, loving brother of the late Mary Candice Kane Wiegel, twin brother of Patrick Kane; loving uncle of 2 nieces Jammie Kane and Tiffany Kane and 2 nephews Jimmy Kane and Billy Kane; Loving step-brother of 3 step-sisters Diane Merkt, Debbie Merkt, and Michelle Krause, 2 step-brothers Jeff Merkt and Craig Merkt, and many beloved friends from Quigley and Loyola, especially Msgr. John Canary, Susanne Smith, Dan Gast, John Foss, Juliana Stover and Isabella Zorra.
Formerly an Iron Worker, when his father was President of the Iron Workers, and also a car salesman. Over the last 20 years Michael established a singular presence at the corner of Quigley Pastoral Center, Pearson & Rush, and befriended every dog that walked his way, and of course, their owners.
He had large tales of studies (in theology) at Notre Dame, and helping teammate Joe Montana get past his religion course by writing his papers for him. He tipped bubbly with Harry Caray in the park. All true and maybe SOME of it somehow really happened.
Surrounded by friends, Mike ended his battle with Cancer and was born into Eternal Life on September 21 at Lake Shore Residence. There will be a Memorial Mass on October 3rd at 11:30 AM at Quigley Pastoral Center St. James Chapel (835 N. Rush St., Chicago). Private interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
