Obituary

Patricia Drennan died peacefully on January 2, 2020 in Chicago after a long illness. She was 87 years old. Born in Detroit, Paddy was the fifth of seven children of Margaret Stein Drennan and Mathias Paul Drennan. She graduated from Saint Agnes elementary and high school and attended Marygrove College in Detroit for the 1951-1952 academic year.  In 1953, she left college to join the Maryknoll Missionary Order of Nuns. Upon completion of her novitiate, she was assigned to teach at a Cambridge University affiliated high school in Tanzania.  Returning to the United States in the 1960s, she earned a master's degree at the University of Michigan and went on to work as a dietician in a number of Chicago area hospitals including Hines Veterans Hospital.  Though she resigned from the Maryknoll order, she remained a devout Catholic and an unrelenting advocate for social justice.  She was a long-time member of the Jane Adams Senior Caucus and Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Known to friends and relatives as "Paddy," she is survived by brother Matthew Drennan (Kathy) of Los Angeles, sister Mary Rita Drennan Hill of Detroit and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Detroit, Chicago and New Jersey.
