We celebrate the joy that Patrick brought to our lives as we mark his untimely passing at the age of 54. Patrick was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up in the nearby suburb of Mequon; he graduated from Homestead High School in 1977. After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Dayton, he took a job with the Harris Bank in Chicago. He remained at Harris Bank all of his working life, earning a Masters Degree at the Kellogg School of Management in 1989.
Patrick is survived by his loving mother, Mary Ann Schieble-Harpster, of Dousman, Wisconsin; his brother Dan and sister-in-law Shari, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his brother Michael, of Oakland, California; and his brother Tom, of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his three nieces who were the pride and joy of his life: Allison, Whitney, and Jordan Schieble. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins are included among his survivors.
Patrick had many interests and both enjoyed and supported the cultural life of Chicago. He was a deeply spiritual individual, making journeys to sacred sites in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and South America. He spoke French fluently and was a member of the Chicago Alliance Francaise. Studying ballet as a young man, he was passionate about dance and served on the Board of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. For all who knew Patrick well, his commitment to LGBT causes was a central part of his identity.
Patrick leaves behind many friends, including Barb, Gretchen, Michael, Rita, Nancy and so many others. We invite all his friends, family, neighbors and acquaintances to share their experiences, by contributing their words on this site or photos at chicagotribune.com/obituaries.
Patrick loved and respected nature unconditionally. He asked, among his final wishes, to hold his Memorial Service "outdoors, in a beautiful, natural setting." Because of current Chicago weather, we ask all of you to hold the date, 22 June 2014 – his 55th birthday, for the celebration.
Patrick's memorial will be Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.
