Peregrina C. Sucaldito, age 88, of Chicago, passed away on September 23, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was proceeded in death by her siblings, Marcellino Sucaldito, Ernesto Villarma, Eduardo Villarma, Zenaida (Sucaldito) Gasalao, and Rosita (Sucaldito) Villarma. She is survived by her brother Jose Villarma and her many nieces and nephews. Peregrina was known as Nina or Nene and most importantly, Auntie.
She immigrated to the US from the Philippines in the 1960's and helped petition her brother to come over as well. She loved living in America and even more, she loved Chicago!
Nina was a Nursing Professor at DePaul University, the Director of Nursing at Englewood Hospital and retired in 2000 as a psychiatric nurse at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Nina was a long-time parishioner of Holy Name Cathedral as well as one of the founders of the Catholic Filipino Network at Holy Name.
Nina enjoyed playing Mahjong with her good friends and always won playing scrabble and cards with her nieces and nephews.
Nina spent the last few years living in DeKalb. She was cared for by her nieces, Edelee and Jennifer, her nephews, Saldie and Bantu, as well as her great nieces and nephews, Shaylee, Shahzar, Shayana and Jai'la.
She will be most remembered for her devotion to God, her sincere generosity, and her unique sense of fashion.
Auntie was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Visitation Monday, October 3, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Michalik Funeral Home, 1056 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60642.
Family and friends will meet on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 North State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60654 for a 9:30 a.m. Visitation followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass. Two-hour free parking is available at 14 W. Superior Street (between Dearborn Street and State Street). Please be sure to take a ticket and utilize any non-reserved parking space on Lower Level One (LL1) or Lower Level Two (LL2). Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.
