Roy L. Chapin, age 86. Every morning you struggled to join the world in a new place, trying to remember the voices, the faces greeting you. Where had it gone to, the sunny, exciting life you knew? No doubt you could feel the love surrounding you… And there was still music.

Roy began his life in a small Montana town. He was the first born to Sarah and Ralph Chapin. Eventually the family moved to Lewistown in the plain center of the state, where Roy and his two siblings and cousins enjoyed growing up with plenty of outdoor adventures Montana style. Roy went on to study petroleum engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada and working in the oil fields of Nova Scotia during vacations. As soon as he graduated, he was drafted into the US army, where he served in the Secret Service at the German/Czech border for more than three years. Roy also met the love of his life there, married and brought her back to Montana. Their life together gave them three children and adventures in many foreign lands. Roy's career took them to live in Argentina, the Caribbean Island of Trinidad, Cairo Egypt, and Houston TX. Chicago was Roy's choice of residence after an early retirement. In the 20 some years living with the slow decline of dementia, he still found pleasure and with concerts in grant park, biking along Lake Michigan, get-together with friends. Roy passed away at home on May 10, 2022, surrounded by those dear to him.

Roy is survived by his wife Annelore; son Neal; daughters Nicole Chapin and Nadeen Robinson; granddaughters Sara, Michelle, and Ashley Robinson; sister and brother-in-law Margo and Bob Perry; and the loving extended family of cousins, nephews, and nieces in Montana.

Visitation Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Michalik Funeral Home, 1056 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60642. A Ceremony of Life will be held for family in Montana at a later date.
