Stanley "Stas" Edward Sopala, age 86, died peacefully on June 22, 2023. He is survived by his brother Walter Sopala; his sister-in-law Alice Sopala; 7 nieces and nephews who loved him dearly - Renee (Joseph) Duran, Laurence (Roxana), Joseph (Sara), Michelle, Eve (Toni Guitart), Daniel (Briana), and Marie (Brad) Nordeng. He is preceded in death by his parents Stanley John Sopala and Stella Gonciarz Sopala. Stas graduated from Lane Technical High School and earned a degree in architecture from University of Illinois.

Stas was an all-around kind and loving person who loved God, life, people, and baseball. Besides his great love of being with family and friends, he also appreciated moments of quiet reflection while listening to his favorite classical music. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fine art, good food, travel, and the outdoors - walking miles a day or riding his bike along the lakefront. He was always a joy to be with. He will be missed by many.

Visitation Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Michalik Funeral Home, 1056 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60642. Family and friends will meet Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Little Sisters of the Poor, 2325 North Lakewood Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60614 for a 9:30 a.m. Visitation followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.
