Thomas Edward Sales died peacefully Monday, July 16, after a brief illness surrounded by friends and family.
Tom was born in Niagara Falls, NY the chosen son of Edward and Phyllis Sales. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1966 and Ohio State University in 1970. He moved to Chicago where he enjoyed a career in the advertising industry, first at Tathum, Laird and Kudner, then, McCann Erickson, Family Circle and Golf Magazine. He served as President of Western Advertising Golf Association and was a proud member of the Knollwood Club in Lake Forest for over 25 years.
He was a self taught, published photographer whose many Chicago photographs reflected his love and respect for the Chicago skyline. He was a devoted disciple of Ansel Adams and lived in search of the perfect image.
Tom was a sensitive man with a good sense of humor who was driven by his many passions – his wife, Betsy and his cherished beagle, Darwin; an endless quest for knowledge, love for golf and his treasured Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his beloved wife Betsy, his mother-in-Law Milly Riemenschnieder, his sisters and brothers: Bobbi Riemenschneider and Gene Updike; Nan and Paul Christensen; Dave Riemenschneider and Sandy Applegate; Al & Juli Riemenschneider and Sarah and Fred Kass. He doted on his nephews and nieces Cindy Updike, Nathan and Lyndsay Christensen, Peter and Hannah Christensen, Topher and Lindsey Stephenson; Michael, Paul, Molly and Dan Riemenschneider and Zack and Bryn Kass and took great pride and pleasure in watching them grow.
A Memorial Mass will be said at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24 at Old St. Pat's Church, 700 West Adams Street, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Anti-Cruelty Society (mail: 157 W.
